Yesterday afternoon about one hundred thousand people took part in a demonstration organized by the Facebook Group called One Million for the Freedom of the Press in Hungary. The main slogan of the demonstration was „The system is disliked”. The crowed responded with a long applause when one of the speakers, Hungarian actor Janos Kulka said” Don’t like the system?!”

Despite the drizzling rain tens of thousands people rallied from Astoria until the Pest side of Elisabeth bridge, where the stage had been erected. Young and old people stood shoulder to shoulder to protest the government. Organizers of the demonstartion distributed fifty thousand press pass saying all demonstartors must be journalists, because the official media do normally falsify and belittle the event.

On behalf of the Students' Network Reka Kinga Papp said: „All forms of the non-violent protest are acceptable and we must organize ourselves”. Her speech began by saying that five years ago, ex-Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsany wanted to introduce educational reforms, but the then opposition Fidesz, the currently ruling party prevented it. And now, it is the Fidesz which is taking several austerity mesures and implementing educational reforms.

All speakers of the demonstration sharply critisized the government for its policies and antidemocratic, dictatorial decisions, e.g. the treatment of the Roma and the homeless, attacks on the country’s cultural institutions, the erosion of democracy, the violation of workers’ rights and the arrogance of the government and its rule by force.

Andras Istvanffy, coordinator of the Fourth Republic Movement (4K!) said” The Hungarian people do not trust the current Prime Minister Viktor Orban, because Orban betrayed the spirit of the 1956 revolution”. As Instvanffy recalled the civil unrest began when the Constitutional Court (CC) annulled a law, then the same day the government wanted to change the powers of the CC”. He believes that the real change of the regime must be started right now. According to him we have three tasks in the future, namely 1.) to organize ourselves; 2.) to join the forces of the opposition; and 3.) to organize the Fourth Republic.

Balazs Denes, President of the Association for the Civic Liberties (TASZ) highlighted the fear, the threats, the arrogance prevailing in the present political system. He said: „I do not like the arrogance and arbitrary nonsense in law." He reminded that the country has got a government and not the opposite way. He said: „It is not enough to state that we do not like the system, but we have to change the current situation.” During his speech, the crowd was repeatedly chanting "Get out of the way Orban!"
and "I do not like the system”.

Finally, Peter Juhasz, spokesman of the One Million for the Freedom of the Press in Hungary announced that within two weeks a campaign will be launched to seek for an „alternative President” who will be inaugurated at the next protest on 15th March 2012.
